Army List

An army list could contain a wealth of information relevant to your quest to find the history
of your family.

There are various categories of army list available to search here at findmypast.com, each
representing a specific area of military records

You can search all military records from 1656-1994, either specifying a range of years to search between
or by choosing the First or Second World Wars.

Another army list includes soldiers who died in the Great War of 1914-1918 which also enables you to narrow your search down by including birthplace and/or residence of your named ancestor.

The National Roll of the Great War is another army list which can be studied here.

Originally published in 14 volumes with an index in 1920, this record lists, broken down by 14 regions, those who served and those who died.

Its publishers went into liquidation two years later though and its information is considered to be far from complete. However it can still be a useful source of research.

A much more reliable army list is the Army Roll of Honour 1939-45. Unlike its previous counterpart, this is derived from the original documents in the Public Record Office.

It includes rank, name, serial number, place and date of death as well as the serving soldier's battalion.
