Frequently asked questions

Certificates

I have the district, volume and page for a BMD record. What do I do with this?

With the index information you will be able to purchase a certificate online, by post, telephone and fax. Please see order a certificate for more details.

Can I view and print birth, marriage and death certificates from this site?

You will not be able to print the actual certificates. The birth, marriage and death images on findmypast.com are a scanned copy of the indexes to the official registers only, and as such may be seen as a finding aid to enable you to obtain copy certificates from the GRO.

Whilst we provide a link to the GRO we are a separate website. If you have any problems with your certificate order you will need to contact the GRO directly

However, please note that you would be ordering certificates direct from the General Register Office, not from findmypast.com.
